Augmented Reality in Action: How The Rosa Parks Museum Brings The Mother Of The Civil Rights Movement to Life
We at QuantumERA are excited to announce our partnership with the Rosa Parks Museum to bring you a mobile application that seamlessly integrates with their entire museum experience. The museum aimed to provide a more comprehensive narrative of the Montgomery Bus Boycott by leveraging modern technology to engage, educate, and inspire young audiences. Additionally, it sought to create a space where visitors could explore Rosa Parks’ legacy alongside the stories of other pivotal figures in the boycott and the broader Civil Rights Movement.
You Can Talk To Civil Rights Activist Rosa Parks
To uniquely bring Rosa Parks’ story and the Civil Rights Movement to life in an immersive way, we partnered with Kevuru Games, an art production and game development studio specializing in 2D/3D art. With over 12 years of experience, Kevuru has collaborated with leading AAA game studios and publishers, including Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Bandai Namco, and EA, contributing to popular games like Fortnite and Star Wars: Tales From The Galaxy’s Edge. Together, we used historical data from the museum as well as input from Rosa Parks’ family to create a digital 3D model of her likeness. The process was meticulous, ensuring every detail of Rosa’s portrayal was accurate and respectful, capturing her legacy meaningfully. We would use her 3D model to facilitate an immersive conversation, allowing visitors to engage directly with Rosa Parks’ story and learn more about her life and impact. Charisma.ai, an interactive storytelling platform specializing in AI-driven dialogue and immersive narratives, played a crucial role in helping us bring this vision to life.

Charisma’s platform enabled us to craft realistic, dynamic conversations with Rosa Parks through AI-generated responses, offering visitors a deeper engagement with her story. We collaborated with the Rosa Parks Museum to write scripts to develop a comprehensive bio of Rosa Parks that ensures her words reflect the essence of her life and activism. We used Charisma.ai to create dialogue trees to organize and enhance the storytelling experience. Visitors could engage in meaningful conversations where Rosa discusses her experiences during the Montgomery Bus Boycott, her challenges, and her thoughts on the broader Civil Rights Movement. Charisma.ai’s platform has been used in high-profile projects, including immersive experiences for organizations like the BBC and the United Nations, demonstrating its power to create interactive narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.
To further ensure Rosa’s essence was authentically represented, we used ElevenLabs, a software specializing in AI-generated voice cloning, to create an AI voice for Rosa Parks. Using audio references from televised interviews, we developed a voice clone that simulates Rosa’s unique speech patterns and tone. This technology was essential in making the experience as lifelike as possible. Our goal wasn’t just for visitors to see a realistic 3D model of Rosa Parks; we wanted them to feel like they were speaking directly with her. Through this, we emphasized a conversational tone, ensuring the interaction was personal and impactful.

Crafting The Montgomery Bus Boycott Scavenger Hunt
QuantumERA’s creative team had the pleasure of visiting the Rosa Parks Museum to meet the staff and tour the museum’s Main Wing and Children’s Wing. During the visit, the team was inspired by a pen-and-paper scavenger hunt activity that school groups participated in. The Children’s Wing interactive scavenger hunt is a distinct experience from the Main Wing scavenger hunt, offering a unique interactive timeline activity. Inspired by the timeline displayed on the walls of the Children’s Wing, which details key events before, during, and after the Montgomery Bus Boycott, this activity engages users in matching historical figures or objects with their correct dates on the timeline. To complete the puzzle, users must reference clues found on the Children’s Wing displays and confirm their answers by scanning the corresponding image or object, ensuring comprehension rather than simple guesswork.
The activity further tests users’ knowledge through multiple-choice questions about the events surrounding the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Rosa Parks. Correct answers unlock a mini-game where users interact with a radio dial to find the right station, revealing a news anchor sharing historical insights about the boycott, simulating what families may have heard on their radios in 1955. This interactive timeline contextualizes the pivotal events and individuals of the Montgomery Bus Boycott while promoting deeper learning and retention. The museum staff and Rosa Parks’ family have expressed enthusiasm for the new interactive elements enhancing the museum experience. They have praised QuantumERA’s collaborative process and innovative features, such as enabling visitors to have conversations with Mrs. Parks through augmented reality and artificial intelligence. So, we hope that the AR scavenger hunt will further enhance engagement and educational value for visitors of all ages.
